Overview

Why we built it

GuideBuddy turns a city walk into a guided tour without a guide, a booklet or constant looking at the screen. Put the phone in your pocket: when you arrive at a place, its story begins, and the screen shows the pictures that go with what you are hearing.

One codebase runs on iPhone, Android and tablets, and a website gives every place its own public page to read, listen to and share.

Travel guides are either a group tour on someone else’s schedule or a wall of text on a small screen. Audio guides exist, but most need you to find the right number, don’t work without mobile data and don’t help you plan the day.

GuideBuddy is the guide that walks at your pace: it knows where you are, tells you what matters, and keeps your plan realistic.

What GuideBuddy does

01

Starts when you arrive

Places have a geofence: when you reach one, its narration starts by itself – no numbers to type, no searching.

02

Story with pictures

Presentation mode shows photos and details in time with the narration, so you know exactly what you are looking at.

03

Day planner

Pick what you want to see and GuideBuddy builds the day; reorder stops and the times and walking route update instantly.

04

Works offline

Download a trip before you go – narration, pictures and maps – and use it without mobile data abroad.

05

Many languages, natural voices

Narration is rendered with natural-sounding AI voices and translations, so the same guide can speak to visitors from many countries.

06

A page for every place

Each place has a public web page to read, listen to and share, and a management panel keeps the content up to date.

Who it is for

Travellers

Independent visitors who want the story of a place without joining a tour.

Cities, museums and tourism offices

Organisations that want to offer a modern, multilingual guide to their sights without printing booklets or renting devices.

Built to work in the real world
  • Offline first: once a trip is downloaded, the guide works without a connection.
  • Photos are credited to their authors and sources.
  • Content is managed in one place and published to the app and the website together.

Status and next steps

GuideBuddy is a working prototype: guides play, geofences trigger, the planner re-times the day and trips work offline.

Next we are looking for a first city, museum or tourism partner to launch it with real content.
